The Parlotones

Giant Mistake

Sovereign Entertainment   www.parlotones.co.za

A new single from the South African rock band that impressed us when they played a colourful show at London’s 100 Club last year. They are at the stage now where they do not feel the need to blaze away in unison and can leave dramatic spaces, but as previously their real secret weapon is a very canny and expressive drummer.

This song finds lead singer Khan is reflective/regretful mood, over a one night stand and maybe their forthcoming album will edge towards the more thoughtful, it’s called ‘A World Next Door To Yours’ and will be reviewed when available. On this release the group pitch at a big, eerie sound and melodically there is an undeniable tinge of Crowded House, it could indeed be a Neil Finn song. Maybe it’s the Southern hemisphere…

Currently wrapping up dates on a tour with Starsailor, The Parlotones have a distinctive push and obviously plenty of ideas, may they avoid leaning towards U2 in delivery and keep things more personal.

There’s a video for this song which you can locate on YouTube I expect
